Dog Throwing Up Blood?

NAR Puppies customer question, “dog is throwing up?”, is below, as follows, followed by the answer from Cody N. Smith. Members comments are welcome at the bottom, if they are nice and curtious, helpful, and in overall good nature.

Hi there. My name is M. J., (name hidden to protect members privacy). My family and I got a miniature male poodle from you all in September of 21.

We've been having a tew issues with our baby on and off for about a year now. He threw up blood about a month ago. I took him to the vet and they said his esophagus was inflamed and maybe that caused it.

I told her that I think he ate some mushrooms from the backyard.

She put him on medicine and all was well for awhile. I noticed today that there were streaks of blood in

his stool. l've had a complete panel of tests run on him at the cost of $500 only to get the findings showing that nothing is wrong. The vet said his pancreas was a little elevated but nothing to be concerned about. He's on a special dogfood for his sensitive stomach.

Can you offer any incite on what you think may be going on? I know this is a very long email but l'm grasping for whatever you can offer to get rid of my baby's problem. We love him so very much.

Sincerely,

M. J.

The answer to the question, “dog is throwing up?”

Hey M. J., this is Cody N Smith.

First I feel you, I do, I that is heart breaking.

Every dog and puppy is different, unfortunately, but Ill help if I can with my years of knowledge as a professional dog breeder.

First, be very careful of Veterinarians, in general, for the most part, they are scam artist. However, they are a real service that most individuals need or want, so most people would not agree with me when I say a business labeled as a “Vetenarian” is a scam, 9 times out of 10.

For most they are necessary, because they have more knowledge of animals than the average person in the population. To someone like me(Cody N Smith, the founder and CEO of NAR Puppies, and as a professional commercial dog breeder, and animal scientist), I have seen tons of variables that contain or equal events where a Vetenarian should of said or done an action different than what they actually choose to do and say, and what they actually did, for a particular animal in question.

With that being said, they are trying to eat, and feed their staff(nurses and staff), at the end of the day.

Take that advice as you want, just some heart to heart to you.

Just know they might even love their customers, and the animals sometimes, but they will run every test in the book, and schedule tons of visits and surgeries if you let them. However, know that, that can also be a good thing in certain variables, that contain or equal a situation where those choices are needed, but anything they do, they will clean you out. Test after test. Please be careful with them, and I see myself differently from them.

If you live close I can watch your puppy for a few days or weeks as an option, but unfortunately I would have to charge a little, but not a lot for their health and food, amd to rehabilotate them, not such my hourly wage.

Another option is get a test kit online, or write down all symptoms in a journal with date and time when they occur, and share them with me, and we can see if it is possible to fix the puppy naturally, or with over the counter medicine, or a routine change, possibly or all three as well.

One of the areas I specialize in is genetics, and ridding my puppies of most all, if not all, known genetically inherited dog diseases, however we will keep an open mind to those as well.

For the tube pathway inside of your puppy, if that is the true correct diagnosis, let’s say it is, for conversation. We need to make sure his breathing seems normal, and not obstructed, especially after running, compared to other dogs around the same size and health and age. I would just use your best educated guess since I am not able to see the dog in person, but you are, and listen to the breathing after running or playing the dog in question, and see if you think an obstruction is possible. To further investigate an obstruction an x-ray can be taken, but this again, cost additional to your household, so try to make an educated decision beforehand, as it could be another test that leads to a conusion of a spending more without a fix.

If there is an obstruction, it is possible it could cause damage over and over, re-occurring, if it is still in there.

If was mushrooms that inflamed it, as you guessed in your question, those should pass, especially every week that goes by, if any of it is still in digestive tracks in there. Time will heal if it has passed.

Blood in stool could be a parasite or bacteria infection, a hole in lining of stomach, or other potential diagnosis as well.

I would worm your dog with over the counter wormer if trying to keep cost down. Depending on the wormer you pick, follow the chart for size and weight dosing information on the wormer bottle. Another option is switching the dog food again, if you experiment with a new dog food changes, try 1-2 weeks at a time at-least for the stomach to adjust to see if it’s better for dog before switching again.
